Visit to Fundación MAPFRE of Madrid

We had a precious visit and workshop in the Recoletos Exhibition Hall called
"From Divisionism to Futurism".

Through a selection of 80 great works of art, this exhibition looks to examine the origins and evolution of Divisionism with its main protagonists, including Giovanni Segantini, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Giaccomo Balla, Angelo Morbelli, Umberto Boccioni, Gino Severini and Carlo Carrà. These artists influenced the renewal of Italian art between the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century and the appearance of Futuristic art.

The exhibition has been organized in collaboration with the Mart, Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, and has loans from numerous international private collections and institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Galleria d’Arte Moderna and the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Galleria degli Uffizi, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Roma, the Museo Segantini, the Centre George Pompidou, the Gemeentemuseum and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, among others.

An autonomous movement
Divisionism was an autonomous movement, different from other European movements because it understood the new research on light-color and on the division of tones as a means, and not as an end, subject to the message of the artwork.

Attentive, on the one hand, to social content that reflects the conditions of life of the most underprivileged classes, Divisionism also shows its relationship with symbolism, the trend that, since the end of the 19th century, influenced all of Europe with clear international hints.

Divisionism laid the foundation for the Futurist movement that erupted with force in the panorama of Italian art in 1909, becoming one of the art movements par excellence.
